inspiration

“For Belonging”

May you listen to your longing to be free.
May the frames of your belonging be generous enough for your dreams.
May you arise each day with a voice of blessing whispering in your heart.
May you find a harmony between your soul and your life.
May the sanctuary of your soul never become haunted.
May you know the eternal longing that lives at the heart of time.
May there be kindness in your gaze when you look within.
May you never place walls between the light and yourself.
May you allow the wild beauty of the invisible world to gather you, mind you, and embrace you in belonging.

—John O’Donohue, from To Bless the Space Between Us: A Book of Blessings

reflection

I will be sharing blessings from from John O’Donohue each week, through the month of December. I believe that, in so many ways, they speak for themselves — because he knew how to speak so beautifully about the condition of the soul.

Rather than spending too much time contemplating these blessings, I’d rather take on a posture of letting them wash over us. I hope this also offers a way to slow down a bit during the often rushed feeling of the holidays.

So for this series, I recommend we pick one line from the blessing each week, and that we let it be a companion to us until the new blessing arrives.

My companion this week will be: May you find a harmony between your soul and your life.

What one line prayer will be your companion this week? Share below if you’d like.

With love & care,
EJW

PS: I won’t be sending any notes from Gather the Inklings next week, as I am off for the holidays. I hope you get to rest next week, too! <3

REACH OUT ABOUT SPEAKING

discerning sobriety course

My course — Discerning Sobriety — guides you as you reflect on the role of alcohol in your life, through 20 lessons and 20 spiritual practices. Discerning Sobriety is for the sober curious, anyone who wants to bring mindfulness into their relationship with alcohol, and people in recovery. You will receive one email every day for 40 days, leading you through a spiritual listening (discernment!) process, as you connect with mind, body, and soul.

This is a great way to use continuing education funds before the end of the year. You will begin getting the emails the day you sign up, but they can be saved to access later if you want to return to the work at a different time. I’m happy to write an invoice for your church for this if that is helpful. <3
