healing moment: body care - what's possible? (erin jean warde)
What if you made a short list of small things you can do to care for your body — as long as they feel possible.
body care — what’s possible?
I cannot begin to tell you how much I struggle with body care. There’s a massive cinder block wall between myself and the motivation to do the things for my body I know will make me feel better. For the most part, it feels impenetrable.
Lately, I am trying to find small ways to care for my body, but here’s the catch — it has to be something that feels possible.
I can think of a bunch of things other people have told me to do for my body. The algorithm knows I pay attention to the millions of tips people are constantly giving us to care about our bodies. But, for the most part, they feel impossible to actually do.
I am a graveyard of good intentions when it comes to caring for my body.
Lately, in obvious need of some gentleness to my body, I’ve been trying to do find small ways to care for my body that feel possible. Here’s my list:
Body lotion *and* body oil after I bathe
Moisturizing my face day and night
When I think of it, putting on hand lotion
Wearing clothes that make me feel good about myself
Now, what feels possible for me might not feel possible for you, and that’s fine. I’m not telling you to take on my list, as it is for me.
But, what if you made a short list of small things you can do to care for your body — as long as they feel possible. Ideally pick things you can do in your home, with what you already have, without adding time to your day. By picking things this way, you’ll remove some of the barriers that can make it feel impossible.
You can just pick one thing. Keep it small. And make sure it’s possible.
And as I always say — there is no act of self care too small. <3

healing moment: body care - what's possible? (erin jean warde)
last night i was sitting on the couch feeling guilty about something i hadn't done for my body. and then all of a sudden my brain went "hey why are we feeling *guilt* about this?" it was such an interesting realization since guilt is the go-to emotion we associate with not caring for our bodies, but for the first time i sat there thinking "i didn't hurt anyone. i didn't do something wrong. i didn't make a mistake. i just didn't do something i could have done. that doesn't need to elicit guilt." i'd like to work on rewriting the script in my brain that says guilt is a reasonable response when it comes to how i think of my body!
My friend your book is almost here!! I remember as you were writting it!! Pre-ordered and can’t wait to get my hands on it. Much love Miranda xo
