journeying to Ohio
I often think: I should become a travel blogger. Because I love writing and I love travel. While I don’t plan to start a ~brand new thing~ I would like to begin sharing more about my travels with you. I realize my newsletters tend to have a focus — a reflection and upcoming events.
I don’t often take the time to reflect on past events, what I’m up to generally, and more. While I don’t promise a ton of new travel essays, I do enjoy writing them, so I imagine you’ll get a few more emails from me here and again… especially since I’ve been traveling quite a bit. You might even get some other tid bits from my life, too.
So today, enjoy a photo essay with reflections from last week’s trip to Ohio!
With love & care,
EJW
I was in Ohio by invitation from my friend, Bishop Anne Jolly, to lead a clergy wellness day for the Episcopal Diocese of Ohio. It was a huge honor to connect with so many amazing clergy to talk about something so near and dear to my heart. I was thrilled to get to know everyone, offer my work, and even celebrate the Eucharist.
The retreat was at their diocesan camp — Bellwether Farm. I became a fast fan and absolutely loved my time there. I experienced incredible hospitality, ranging from the people, to food, to lodging, to scenery, and all the animals. I couldn’t have been happier with my room with a view, plus all the rest. (Truly the food is some of the best I have had, and nothing feels better than being on retreat and eating food that tastes amazing AND makes your body feel good.)
I arrived on Wednesday afternoon, and around 3a.m. Thursday morning, two lambs were born! As I told some people: the most important thing I did this week was my ministry…. but this is like, a super super close second. Holding a lamb that is hours old does something to your brain chemistry, and it is good. <3
I visited with the other farm friends, too.
Friday was a full retreat day for me, and Saturday my only task was writing a sermon, so I enjoyed lots of walking around the farm, taking in the fullness of autumn’s beauty.
On Sunday, I had the joy of preaching at St. Peter’s-Lakewood, OH by invitation from their new rector, Father Mike Lager. It was a true joy, and if you’re in the area, I highly suggest visiting this lovely parish!
After church, I got to enjoy Cleveland!
It was a beautiful week, full of the joy of ministry coupled with long-needed rest. I’m deeply grateful for everyone who made this possible, from the Episcopal Diocese of Ohio, to Bellwether Farm, to St. Peter’s-Lakewood, plus my new friends and tour guides Ruth & John.
Every time I visit the Midwest, I become even more enchanted by its beauty. Thanks for having me, Ohio. <3
We so loved hosting you! Please come back again soon!
